Wedgwood urn shaped vase.

A classically shaped urn style vase by Wedgwood with twin scallop shell handles and the distinctive creamy, matt white moonstone glaze.

The vase has a pedestal base and trumpet shaped body with fluted banding. The two decorative scallop shell handles are each approximately 3cm wide.

Introduced in 1933, the moonstone glaze was used extensively on Wedgwood designs and its composition remains largely unchanged today. Resembling marble, the moonstone glaze has a very soft sheen as opposed to a pure matt appearance.

13.5cm tall, 10cm diameter across the top of the vase. Approximately 11cm wide from the tip of each of the shell handles.

The vase likely dates from the 1950s or 1960s and is stamped Wedgwood & Barlaston of Etruria, Made in England. The mark, which is printed in colour on the base, was first introduced in 1940. The circled R, which was added in 1974 to indicate the registered trade mark of the name Wedgwood, is not present in this back stamp.

Excellent vintage condition without crazing or any cracks. There are a couple of faint, very light scratches to the interior of the vase.

All our pieces have a past and may feature age-related marks which we believe add to their charm. If you have any questions about this item or would like to see further photographs, please do get in touch.
