Victorian Wedgwood green leaf plates.
A pair of beautiful antique majolica plates by Wedgwood in dark emerald green with textured design to the leaf. Dating to the 1870s.
Ideal for display on a wall as part of a collection of vintage and antique plates.
Both plates have small filled chips to their edges that have been repaired with green clay.
The plate reverses feature Wedgwood's impressed three letter date code with the word Wedgwood. The letter codes date the plates to 1871 and 1872.
In the three letter codes, the first letter indicates the month the plate was made, the second letter references the potter and the last letter is for the year. These plates are most likely from the first series of codes created by Wedgwood. Although the code sequences were repeated, the word England was added to pieces from 1891 but does not appear on these plates.
Approximately 20cm in diameter.
Good antique condition with the repairs as mentioned, some small scuffs/nibbles and crazing to the glaze.
All our pieces have a past and may feature age-related marks which we believe add to their charm. If you have any questions about this item or would like to see further photographs, please do get in touch.
