Stunning set of four Arabia Ruija stoneware demitasse cups and saucers from Finland.
Something of a design classic and highly collectable, these dainty Ruija coffee cups by Arabia were designed by Raija Uosikkinen and Ulla Procopé in 1975 and made in Finland until 1981.
The cups are small, a little under 8cm tall, and could be used for coffee or an espresso or for a hot chocolate. They are often described as cocoa or mocha cups.
Each cup features a hand painted design of plums and leaves in brown and charcoal grey with lovely visible brush strokes against a tan coloured background.
The cups are all slightly different in their colouring and brush strokes due to being decorated by hand. A brown ring surrounds the inside rim of each cup which is replicated in the matching saucers which each have a brown ring towards their outer edge.
Each cup and each saucer is marked Arabia Finland to the base.
The cups are approximately 7.8cm tall and 7cm in diameter across the top. The saucers are 12.5cm in diameter.
The set is in excellent condition with some light scratches but without crazing, repairs or cracks. The cup marked 37 has a couple of small nibbles to the base which are clean and smooth. Overall, the set appears to have been well cared for and lightly used.
This is a really special set of Ruija Arabia coffee cups and it would be lovely to keep it all together however if you are interested in purchasing a pair or a single cup and saucer please do get in touch.
All our pieces have a past and may feature age-related marks which we believe add to their charm. If you have any questions about this item or would like to see further photographs, please do get in touch.
